This morning Lou was talking about a friend of hers that she wants to marry.  I suggested that she needed to wait until she is older to get married and so we began discussing the appropriate age.  First she said that when she is a big sister who is 17, she could get married.  I told her she needed to be at least 21.  Then she asked "Mom, how old is Ariel?"
I said, "She is sixteen."  Then thought, "Oh dear!"  It had never occurred to me that Ariel is sixteen and gets married!  That's it! NO more of "The Little Mermaid" at our house!

I know, isn't it crazy how young Ariel is when she gets married?! Can you imagine if either of us had gotten married that young? Ironically, in the old days, 16 to 18 was the perfect age for new brides, but I definitely wasn't mature at that age to take care of a husband, children, and household.

PS) I hope you're doing well. We miss our favorite red head! :)

What was Disney thinking??? Sleeping Beauty's the same way. We must figure out a way to solve this problem. Maybe when you're in DL you can talk to Ariel about the importance of waiting a little longer? :)

HA! Too late now. She has 16 ingrained into her head. What is wrong with Disney?

That has always bothered me. What's the deal!? Maybe age is counted differently in mermaid years . . .

Ariel was made a long time ago, and people did get married younger in those days. I wonder if you explained that to her if she would change her mind?

I would like to point out that we don't actually know when Ariel or Aurora got married. It could have been several years later. Look at Aladdin and Jasmine. It took them FOREVER to get married. =)
