Anyone ever been to Bethesda?

Our phone rang at 6:19 this morning. I assumed it would be a wrong number as Fisher tumbled out of bed to answer. I could here the voice on the other end say, "This is Steve Chicken from the National Institue of Health, is this Fisher Lake?" The call was to inform Fisher that he's been selected to participate in a summer research internship in Washington DC this summer. We are both excited, but now we have lots of work to figure out the logistics of living there for 10 weeks - Do we all go out there? Where would we live? How would we get two adults, two children and all of our stuff there on an airplane? Could we afford any of that? Sooo... Does Fisher just go? Do I go visit him for a couple weeks with or without the girls? Where would he live? There are lots of things to do and decide.. If anyone has friends in that area or knows it well, we would love some advice on where to live and what to expect, etc....

Jeremy and I are moving to Washington DC at the end of April. We have been going through apt searches and pricing adn lots of other stuff.

Call me or Jeremy some time and we can chat about it. I think you should definitely come--then we can play all the time. Yay!!

rachel and nick live just outside of DC. Nick attends Georgetown Law. I am sure she would be happy to give advice. She also lived there when she was an intern in 2001, so rachel has a lot of resources and information. Her blog is on my blog, check it out and contact her!

That sounds really exciting. I don't have any advice. I have never lived out there, sorry. But what a great opportunity. I hope it all works out how you would like it to.

Elaine! We live in Fairfax, VA. If you need help, let us know. We probably have some insights on where to live etc! Let me know.

How crazy and exciting! I don't know what Wade and I would do if we were in your shoes. Thankully because of your current house situation, you could leave it behind and share this adventure together as a family without having to worry about leaving a mortgage behind. It might be really neat to live outside of Utah and attend another ward and meet new people. I say, GO FOR IT! Rent a furnished apt. so you just have to take clothes and not the WHOLE house! Sounds like it would be fun! Good luck with the decision!

Elaine... Laura and I were out in DC last summer and went through the same stuff you guys are going through now. Actually, we were in Rachael and Nick's ward. I'm sure they can give you lots of great advice.

We're actually probably on our way back out to DC within the next couple of months and have a house that's been offered to us to rent starting in June. We would really like to jump on it, but I don't have a job yet. When does the internship start? Maybe we could get you guys hooked up with this same person. The guy is a single LDS guy, is being deployed to Iraq, and wants someone reliable to stay in his house. He lives in Silver Spring, Maryland which is a prime location. He was going to charge us $1600 a month for both rent and utilities. Believe me, it's a smokin' deal. Give me a call or shoot me an email.
