Washington Weekend

If you haven't figured it out yet, we really love road trips and decided it was time for another one. (We actually really love our family and decided the 10 hour drive was worth it). We headed up to Tri-Cities, Washington to visit Fisher's brother and his family. C and S were wonderful hosts. They planned a couple fun activities, but not so many that the trip was stressful. We kicked back and let the kids play. We drove to a nearby cemetery and fed the swans in the pond.


We attempted to visit the local pumpkin patch but thought it strange that a pricey admission was required to visit the patch. Instead the kids played with the sprinkling of pumpkins left outside the patch for just that purpose maybe?

I love fall decor!

Fisher enjoyed having a break from school without too much homework. He played with the kids a lot, watched movies, and played games. This weekend he is on a fishing trip with his Grandpa, dad, and brother. Fisher's first two years of PT school were intense. This year is much lower key, but still busy. He is always so focused on school and the free time he has is spent playing with Curly and Lou or helping me. Even though I gave him a hard time about leaving me alone for the weekend (sniff, sniff), I'm glad that he can go and do something he enjoys for a few days. But, I really miss him! Luckily for me, my parents decided this weekend would be a good time to come visit! My parents, brother's family, sisters and I all met up for dinner tonight. It was fun to catch up with each other.

At Your Leisure

Fisher had his heart set on going camping last weekend. I am okay with camping, it just seems like camping in Idaho in October is asking for torture. I could picture myself and two little girls shivering in my sleeping bag all night. However, though Fisher knows that I am always right : ), I have to admit that I was wrong. The weather was beautiful. The scenery rich with autumn change and color. No one shivered except stubborn Curly who insisted on NOT sleeping in a sleeping bag. My parents came along also and we had an enjoyable evening. I find it funny that camping is considered a "leisure" activity. You spend ten times the amount of time planing, gathering supplies, packing, driving, unloading, and setting up than you do actually "leisure-ing". And that is just getting there, you have to repeat it all when you go home, which in our case was the next day.

We spent the rest of the weekend at my parent's home. We watched conference, worked on projects, bottled applesauce, and had a girl's night with my mom and sisters. I guess I should clarify that I spent the weekend doing the above listed items. Fisher spent the weekend fishing, watching conference, and sleeping. However, I did manage to convince him to go to Latin dance night with my sister and her date (after she convinced me that was something I wanted to do). I thoroughly enjoyed learning to salsa and I could tell by Fisher's amazing hip wiggling that he did too. Too bad I didn't catch that on camera.

Nothing New

I guess life is officially back to normal when I can't think of anything to post. Not that life has been boring, so if you are thinking you don't want to read this seemingly prosaic post, think again : ) I now give you the top 5 events of the week:

5 - Curly is currently "scared" of monsters, the dark, spiders, ... and we find her curled up and wide awake on the floor of our room early each morning. The lack of sleep has made her very fragile.

4 - My friend took the girls' pictures this week and while she did a great job, Curly and Lou did not. It made for some pretty entertaining pictures. Fortunately, she does retakes.








3 - I am in charge of our Ward's Primary Program and have been working on it all week. The first rough draft is officially written!

2 - I tried something new this week. Given the plethora of tomatoes, peppers, and onions around here, I decided to try my hand at homemade salsa. It turned out very well if I do say so myself.

1 - We had play dates with all of Curly and Lou's cousins that live in Utah! Last night the playdate was in Provo. Fisher and my brother watched the girls and I was able to go the Relief Society Broadcast with two of my sisters and my sister-in-law! I had never done that before! We also had a playdate with my good friend Sarah. She invited us to go to Discovery Gateway with her. Curly and Lou both loved it!

That's four playdates in one week - phew! I guess all that playing wore the girls out and both crashed for an early nap today. Lou fell asleep eating...

The Queen of Canning

Who is the queen of canning you ask? It is not me. My grandma Betty bottles the most delicious peaches and pears, not to mention her pickles and jams. This year is no exception, in fact this year is the marathon of the peaches. Thus far we have bottled 56 quarts and today Grandma informed me that we are not done yet. I guess when she bought 2 bushels of peaches from the fruit stand she did not realize how productive her 10 peach trees would be this year : ) It has been a fun experience. I don't think I have mentioned that my brother and his wife moved 12 hours closer to us this summer (which puts them only 45 minutes away!). So my sister-in-law Shar drove up one day to help bottle. She brought Curly's cousin Letty and they had a blast together, which allowed us to work hard helping Grandma.

The never ending peaches...the just keep going....and going...


Speaking of prize winning peaches, we also went the State Fair last Saturday (that's a nice segue, don't you think). Tim (my newly settled 45 minutes away brother), Shar, Letty, Gracie and my sister K-Rae came with us - YAY! The fair is the most amazing collection of people - the tough ranchers, the rowdy rodeo-ers, the quiet green thumbs, the sophisticated artists, the noisy families, the pushy salesman... such a hodge podge of people make it a fun outing (though a bit overpriced).

Curly had her first pony ride... I won't go into the details of how we got ripped off, but at least she enjoyed all 10 seconds of it.

The blue ribbon exhibit was the "Helping Hands Farm" sponsored by the FFA. Curly, Lou, and Letty put on little aprons and carried little buckets around as they worked their way through the processes of a farm. Feeding the cow, milking the cow, planting seeds and gathering the crops, driving the tractors (tricycles), and then selling their goods at a farmers market for "$1 Fair Buck" that they used at the "general store" to buy a treat. I think Curly has asked to go back to that farm no less than 4 times since the fair.

Happily Ever After...

You might think I haven't posted because after our action packed summer, our lives appear comparatively mundane. Quite on the contrary, the action never ends. We have been busily unpacking, re-organizing, and getting into our old groove. It is great to be home! Before making our final exodus back to Salt Lake (at least for a few weeks : ) I attended my friend Ashleigh's wedding. Hers was the finale of weddings among my closest high school friends. I was very happy to be there! Just for fun, here's a picture of some of our gang at Commencement dance Senior year. Ashleigh's on the left.

The night before Ash's wedding Jill, Margie, Ash, and I had a Girl's night. It was wonderful to be with friends I've known since elementary school. I think it is amazing that we have stayed in contact since we graduated eight years ago. Here's a picture from our GNO - Ashleigh, Jill, Margie, and I. (Margie isn't pictured above)

Curly loved the wedding reception, especially the beautiful dresses. Lou loved the food and swiped this little tart off her sister's plate while my back was turned.

Ashleigh is great and of course married an equally great guy! I approve!

Now that we are finally back in the mountains, we are trying to make up for the missed hiking opportunities this summer. We had a picnic and short hike in Millcreek a few weeks ago. Apparently, not everyone was in the hiking mood which is why both girls are being carried.

Labor Day weekend we had the annual Woodbury Family Reunion. Typically we convene at the LLL Ranch, but this year we had it in Salt Lake so that my grandparents (and the reason we have a wonderful Woodbury family) would be more comfortable. Events included hiking to and touring Timpanogas Cave (Curly hiked all the way up!), a picnic afterward, various activities at Thanksgiving point and our traditional Birthday dinner (Grandpa's treat) at Harvest restaurant. Sunday was more laid back - church, a short program, dinner, and games. The Woodbury family loves games! We played card games, strategy games, Wii games, children's games, we love games! Unfortunately, I was a camera bum and have no pictures to post! Fortunately, Fisher was uncharacteristically camera happy on his way up the mountain and snapped this cute picture.
