I have mentioned before that Fisher is very creative and hates to spend money... that combination makes our life interesting... especially when it comes to upgrading our home.
Exhibit A: Fisher want to put a Mexican Fan Palm in the front yard. First he needs a tree, so last year at his Boss's Easter dinner, he took a seed from her Mexican Fan Palm (that is the stealing part) and planted it in our garden or "the nursery" as he likes to call it. Amazingly, we now have quite a large Fan palm ready to be moved to the front yard. So...
First we dig it up.
Then the root ball starts to break up... What can we use that we have on hand - ah ha! Seran wrap saves the root ball
Then we strain our backs getting it out of the hole and onto our "wheelbarrow." Oh wait, we don't own a wheelbarrow, so we put it on our folded up bike cart.
Finally we roll it to the front yard and plop it in the whole.
I will let you know if it survives!

My parents have two trees in their yard that they took the sprouts from the U of U. They were little sprouts growing under one of their big trees that my Dad just put in water so the roots could develop and then planted. They are HUGE trees now. Best way to do it.
Way to go!
I was given cuttings from friends quite a bit when we lived in Texas, and we had a real collection of plants that way.
I'm very impressed by that fan palm, though. I strongly recommend that you show Fisher's boss (if it survives, which I'm sure it will if it could grow like that from one seed), so that it won't be stealing any more.
And I'll have to show you the plant I've grown from an avocado pit.
Very impressive. I especially appreciate the resourceful use of you bike trailer.
That is so awesome! I would definitely dub that "amazingly large". I tried to do the same thing with a tomato from Sans Souci, but it didn't work. I'm glad to see my theory is a good one, though. I won't stop trying!
